We're celebrating International Women in Engineering Day by highlighting a few of our skilled engineers. #IWED18 #RaisingtheBar

What is your role?

Construction Executive for Overseas Building Operations, State Department

I am the U.S. counterpart to the on site project manager. I ensure that construction on embassies is coordinated through OBO.

What's your favorite part of the job?

Seeing real progress on the construction site and knowing my efforts had a direct impact on the project. I can see the results of my work in a relatively short time (a few months to a few years).

Why did you choose a career in engineering?

I was surrounded by construction growing up. My father built homes and was a Jack of all trades and engineers without a degree. I was always curious about what I saw and enjoyed taking things apart to see how it was made and put back together.

Any advice for young girls considering an engineering career?

Don't think that you need to love math and science and be great at both or need to like something specific. Engineering is ALL around us and you can work almost anywhere and do almost anything with an engineering degree, your options are endless. It can even take you to the other side of the world to experience new cultures!
