Advancing Public Sector Quality: Highlights from ASQ WCQI 2025

At Markon, we believe in the power of purpose-driven professionals to shape the future of government performance. That belief was front and center during my recent experience representing the ASQ Government Division at the 2025 ASQ World Conference on Quality & Improvement (WCQI) in Denver, Colorado.

This flagship gathering brought together thousands of quality professionals from across the globe, each focused on advancing innovation, sharing best practices, and driving mission impact. For those of us in public service, it was a powerful reminder of why quality matters and what it makes possible.

A Milestone Year for the ASQ Government Division

As 2024 Chair of the ASQ Government Division, I had the privilege of helping lead a dedicated team of more than 3,300 members spanning government, academia, industry, and the military. At WCQI, our division was proud to receive the Silver Performance Excellence Award, a significant recognition of our team’s energy, collaboration, and measurable contributions to public sector quality. This award isn’t just a symbol of success; it’s a testament to the resilience, vision, and impact of those dedicated members around the globe.

    Engaging the Global Quality Community

Throughout WCQI 2025, the ASQ Government Division showcased its expertise and enthusiasm through interactive sessions and cross-sector collaborations. I was honored to present two of our division’s key thought leadership engagements:

Achieving Peak Process Performance: Mapping the Ascent

In this session, I guided attendees through strategic techniques for using process mapping to:

    1. Identify inefficiencies
    2. Align efforts with agency missions
    3. Foster transformation in complex government environments
Leveraging Data Analytics, AI, and Automation to Optimize Quality

This forward-looking session explored how modern technologies can drive decision-making, increase agility, and strengthen outcomes. Through case studies and practical frameworks, we demonstrated how government and industry can deploy these tools to stay mission-ready in the face of rapid change.

Division-Wide Impact: Collaboration at Every Level

Our collective momentum extended well beyond individual talks. The ASQ Government Division engaged with peers across sectors in several dynamic formats:

    • Government Division Spotlight: Led by 2025 Chair Shruti Patil and Chair-Elect Jarrett Perlow, this fast-paced “Quality Quest” gamified learning through a fun, interactive challenge that tested participants' public sector know-how.

    • Synergy for Success Showcase: A cross-division knowledge-sharing forum where we exchanged strategies, celebrated achievements, and explored scalable models for operational excellence in readiness for our upcoming Virtual Summit in July 2025.

    • EDGe Showcase (Energy, Design & Construction, Government): This panel sparked meaningful conversations on aligning quality strategies with ESG priorities, infrastructure modernization, and sustainable innovation.
