Ask HR: What It’s Really Like to Work at Markon

Your Most-Asked Questions—Answered by Our People Team

What’s it actually like to work at Markon? What do we mean by flexibility, support, and growth—and how do those values show up in a mission-driven, client-facing environment?

We asked our Human Resources team to weigh in on some of the most common questions we get from job seekers. Whether you're actively applying or just doing research, we hope this gives you a clear and honest view of what life at Markon really looks like.

What is Flexible Paid Time Off (FPTO), and how does it work?

Markon’s FPTO program offers flexibility with trust. There’s no accrual or annual rollover—just open, manager-coordinated time off designed to help you recharge and maintain balance.

We understand that flexibility must work within the context of client expectations, so coordination is key. But at its core, FPTO gives you the autonomy to manage your time like a professional.

What if someone needs extended time off—for caregiving, burnout, or life changes?

When major life events happen, we work with team members to find the best path forward. Depending on your situation, that might include FPTO, short-term disability, FMLA, or other leave options.

How flexible is the hybrid or remote work model?

While many clients require on-site presence, some offer hybrid or remote flexibility. If your assigned project allows it, our IT team will make sure you're equipped to work securely from anywhere.

We encourage applicants to choose roles that align with their location preferences and commuting comfort, knowing that requirements may change over time.

What career development support is available?

We believe in real-time growth—not just annual reviews. Through frequent one-on-ones and transparent promotion cycles, team members get consistent feedback, mentorship, and opportunities for advancement. Through our feedback tool, Lattice, team members can receive or request feedback across the entire organization!

Our internal promotion process is documented and conducted twice a year, with leadership input and clear criteria.

Does Markon support certifications or continued learning?

    Yes. Markon currently reimburses:

    • Up to $5,000 annually for tuition
    • Up to  $1,500 annually for certifications and continuing education

Requests should align with your current role and be approved in advance. We’re proud to invest in your growth.

    What’s onboarding like?

We believe onboarding is an experience that starts prior to your actual hire date and lasts through your first year with Markon. Your first day starts with a half-day orientation—virtual or in-person, depending on your location. You’ll meet company leaders and get an overview of key systems, benefits, and resources. Throughout the year, we’ll ask how you’re doing, give you tips and tricks on our tools and systems, and make sure you are getting the information you need to feel like you are part of the team as soon as possible.

    How does Markon support well-being?

We invest in whole-person wellness. That includes:

    • Wellness challenges that encourage connection and healthy habits
    • A fitness reimbursement program
    • A confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental, financial, and family support

Our goal is simple: help you bring your best self to work—and life.

    How does recognition work?

We recognize excellence at every level. Through our Spot Awards, annual awards, and peer and client shout-outs, we celebrate the people who help us grow, deliver, and support each other along the way.
